I’ve always believed that my best ideas come to me when I’m on the move.
Whether I’m driving down a long stretch of road, out walking in nature, or heading off on a last-minute adventure, something about travelling clears my head and sparks new ideas.
This week, that theory proved itself again — during a whirlwind 36-hour trip to Amsterdam. Yes, base to base, home to home, in just a day and a half!
The Reason Behind the Trip
The trip all started with a concert I’ve wanted to attend for years — Eros Ramazzotti live at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam.
One of his songs, “I Belong to You” (originally sung with Anastacia), has been one of my all-time favourites. It’s one of those songs that never fails to pull at the heartstrings, and I couldn’t resist the chance to finally hear it performed live.
Still, I wasn’t sure if I should go. My practical side was telling me to stay home — work commitments, upcoming projects, and that never-ending to-do list all trying to talk me out of it.
At first, I planned to drive and take a full week exploring other places along the way. Then I decided against going completely. Then — in true “me” fashion — I changed my mind again and booked a quick flight.
Sometimes, you’ve just got to stop overthinking and go with what feels right.
Falling for Amsterdam
I absolutely loved Amsterdam. The energy, the canals, the architecture — everything felt so alive.
I did a bit of sightseeing (and I’ll be honest, some of what I saw left me absolutely gobsmacked 😂). It’s definitely a city that deserves a lengthier visit, and I’m already planning a return trip to explore more.
But between the wandering and the wide-eyed moments, I also found myself doing a lot of thinking — the kind of deep, reflective thinking that only happens when you’re out of your usual surroundings.
The Power of Taking a Break
That’s the thing about travelling, even for a short while — it gives you space. Space to think, to breathe, to be inspired again.
You don’t always need a long holiday to reset; sometimes, 36 hours is enough to bring clarity and creativity back to the surface.
Balance is everything. Work will always be there — the deadlines, the decisions, the responsibilities — but those spontaneous moments that make you feel alive? They’re fleeting. And they’re the ones that keep your spark burning.
So, if you’ve been holding back from doing something — booking that trip, saying yes to a concert, taking that little escape — this might be your reminder.
Let your head take the lead sometimes.
You might just come back lighter, happier, and full of new ideas — like I did.
